Sweet Like Honey | Homemade Lip Scrub

Hello!

The cold weather can play havoc with our skin, making it dry, sore and chapped! That's why it's so important to make sure we take extra care by moisturising our skin properly during this time to help soothe, heal and hydrate it. Sometimes it can be hard to tell just how much damage the weather has caused to our skin, but the one area that is noticeable is our lips! I don't think there's anything worse than chapped lips in winter and regardless of how often you apply lip balm, sometimes you just can't escape it.... but you can make something to help!

Here is a recipe to make a homemade lip scrub that will help exfoliate your lips, making them soft and smooth once again :)

What you'll need:

A Small Jar/ Container
1 Part Granulated Sugar
1 Part Honey
1 Part Olive Oil or Coconut Oil

Spoon (For Stirring)

To make the Lip Scrub:

To begin, make sure the jar or container you are using has been thoroughly washed and dried. Next, add the honey, oil and sugar in equal measures into the container and stir (if you are using coconut oil, you may need to heat it first to make it easier to add to the other liquid ingredients). You may find it is slightly too runny to work well as a scrub at this point, so if this happens add another teaspoon of sugar to the mixture and keep doing this until you reach your desired consistency.

Due to using fresh ingredients, it is best to keep this lip scrub in a sealed container in the fridge. Although this should last a while it is always best to make sure it still looks and smells fresh before each use. If not, throw away and make some more :)

To use the Lip Scrub:

Once you have a pot of your homemade lip scrub, simply dip your finger into the mixture and apply to your lips. Gently rub in circular motions all over your lips to exfoliate. This can take anything from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on how much time you have and how affected your lips are. Next, gently wipe with a soft cloth to remove and apply a coat of your favourite lip balm to finish!

I know you can buy scrubs similar to this in many shops, but I don't think theres anything better than making it yourself. For one, you'll know exactly what you are using and what you'll be putting on your lips, meaning they'll be no chemicals or artificial ingredients and it enables you to tailor the mixture to suit your own requirements- helpful if you happen to be allergic, for example to any ingedient, you're able to alter the recipe to suit you.

I love making this scrub, especially as you're more than likely to find all the ingredients you need in your kitchen. It's inexpensive, easy to make and tastes amazing... although I wouldn't advice you to eat it!
